Energization Exercises Kriya Yoga is about controlling breath and placing the attention of mind at certain parts of the body. The following 2 exercises are preliminary ones which will train the practitioner towards the ultimate goal.

Exercise I – Paying attention to breath
1. Watch the incoming breath for 5 minutes
2. Watch the outgoing breath for 5 minutes
3. Watch the gap just after incoming breath and before the outgoing breath for 5 minutes
4. Watch the gap just after the outgoing breath and before the incoming breath for 5 minutes.

Practice this breath watching exercise for 20 minutes daily.

Exercise II – Paying attention to 3rd eye.
This is an exercise for focusing on your third eye. The third eye is situated in between your 2 eye brows. Imagine a dot or an object in the ceiling just straight above your head. Try to see that object / dot on top of the ceiling which is about 6 feet above your eye level with your eyes open. The important thing is, do this without lifting up your head. The head should stay as it would be, when you are looking straight forward. But your eye balls alone should move up to see the wall above your head. If you do this right, nothing in front of you will be visible even though your eyes are open. Try practicing this but do not strain your eyes too much. Exercise your eyes slowly daily and day by day, move your focus up and up. Do not lift up your head any time.

You may start doing this exercise for 2 minutes daily and then slowly, gradually increasing it up to a maximum of 15 minutes a day as long as you don’t strain your eyes. The important thing is not to strain your eyes at all.
